Companion Basics
Companion Basics:
They were originally only assigned to adults for business purposes years ago, but now people of all ages can be assigned one if they're eligible- meaning that only money is an issue.
Companions can either be like pets or slaves to people, depending on how their Master treats them. Society overall views them as a good thing but that doesn't mean that there aren't people against their existence, so there can be instances where Companions face discrimination.
A companion is for life- meaning as long as the Master lives. When the Master dies, the Companion is usually shut down, or in rare cases, handed down to others- but that requires a data rewrite, so most information and memory is lost during this- it's the least desirable option. Companions often don't take well to their Master's deaths either, some even having formed some sort of PTSD symptoms after the fact, requiring some sort of action to be taken.
Companions are nearly indestructible, and run on an internal power source that has been designed to be running for decades into the future and further. Their materials are of the highest quality to make sure that they stay running for a good long time, though there is an unusual amount of bad quality materials being used leading to problems.
.
Older models run on internal batteries and need to be plugged into power sources to continue living, so they have slots on the back of their necks and all over their bodies, and they aren't as durable and they don't live as long as the other models. While the newer Companions can live for over 60+ years through their Master's lifespan, the older models only last for about 5-10, sometimes longer if treated well.

General Requirements of a Companion:
-At least 4 feet tall, no shorter but taller companions are common as well. The most common height is between 5'9"-6'2"
-A type of screen on their shirts and/or chests for access to screens- not required to be always visible, as some Companions can wear jackets over them. Older models have them embedded in their chests, while newer models have screens separate from their bodies.
-A barcode- only newer models have them- placement can be anywhere on the body.
-A name, chosen by the Master upon introduction. It's rare for a Master to not want to name their Companion, although it is possible. In this case, the Companion can name themselves but it's often an awkward experience.
-A basic human appearance- can have animal ears/tails or altered otherwise by request.
